A short video showing myself measuring and dispensing an I-131 capsule made by ARI at Lucas Heights in Sydney Australia. I am of course working behind lead shielding and lead glass. This particular capsule measures 4GBq (~100mCi), and will be used to treat thyroid cancer. Doses for cancer typically range from 500 to 8000MBq (~50-200mCi). Patients are normally surprised by the size and rather anti-climatic presentation of their “radiation therapy”. Most of them envisage huge machines (of which they will visit later to have a whole body scan), scary sounds and people in radiation suits…

Obama is an advocate of Nuclear Power. When Obama was a state senator in Illinois, he put in a bill for safety around nuclear plants. A number of Nuclear Power companies came in and talked to him. As a result, Obama water-downed the bill, came out as an advocate of Nuclear Power, and has taken a significant amount of money from members of the nuclear power utility industry. Obama has terrible judgement, and he does not care about the people who would suffer living next to reactors or to the radioactive waste they produce. “In interviews over the past two weeks, Obama aides insisted that the revisions did not substantively alter the bill. In fact, it was left drastically different. In place of the straightforward reporting requirements was new language giving the nuclear commission two years to come up with its own regulations. The bill said that the commission “shall consider” — not require — immediate public notification, and also take into account the findings of a task force it set up to study the tritium leaks.
